Korea Institute for Education & Evaluation Advancement (CEO Seong Dae Geun) announced on September 2 that it attended a seminar to revive local universities held to solve the problem of a series of universities that did not meet the quota along with the disappearance of local areas.
The Seminar to Save Local Universities held at Suseong University in Daegu is organized by the Korea Regional University Revitalization Movement Headquarters and organized by the Fair Society Action Solidarity, which was established in September last year to present a new direction and find alternatives.
The event, which began with a greeting from Central Chairman Shin Young Gil, ended the first part with a congratulatory speech by Cho Kang Hyun, a member of the National Assembly, and Cho Jae Gu, head of Nam Gu, Daegu.
Opinions were presented on the designation of a "specialized internationalization zone for overseas talent-specific education at the local government level," a measure proposed by the Ministry of Education, and various opinions were presented along with questions and answers.
Korea Institute for Education & Evaluation Advancement currently operates a consortium project with universities and conducts job training for college students as well as unemployed young people, career-interrupted women, and out-of-school teenagers. As an educational company closely related to universities, various efforts are being made to find solutions with interest in the agenda of reviving local universities.
Shin Young Gil, chairman of the Central Committee for the Revitalization of Local Universities in Korea, said, "The concentration of students in the metropolitan area is a natural phenomenon that cannot be helped in modern society. In order to prevent the disappearance of local universities, interest and cooperation in industry-academic relations are the most important factors, and various alternatives are needed. We hope that this seminar will prevent the disappearance of local universities and solve regional development and economic problems correlated with the existence of local universities by sharing problems in our society and various alternatives for the survival of local universities."
Seong Dae Geun, CEO of Korea Institute for Education & Evaluation Advancement, said, "Korea is currently on the verge of disappearing local universities, with the number of freshmen falling short due to low birth rates, aging, and concentration in the Seoul metropolitan area. As a result, various measures such as selecting and supporting global universities and designating special zones for internationalization of education are being proposed, but there are still many concerns about regional problems and budgeting fairness. It would be good to come up with better plans and detailed plans through various discussions, as good opinions were presented through this Seminar on Saving Local Universities. As Korea Institute for Education & Evaluation Advancement is also continuing its consortium projects with universities and educational projects for college students, it will strive to "revive local universities."
